Obituary of Charles Robert Mutch III

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Charles Robert Mutch III, 78, of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on March 22, 1947, in Westfield, New York, to Charles and Frances (Riscili) Mutch. After graduating from Westfield High School in 1965, Charles pursued higher education at Duke University in North Carolina and has since remained a devoted Blue Devil fan. He went on to dedicate more than five decades of his life to healthcare as a Physician Assistant before retiring. His commitment to the medical profession extended beyond clinical practice—he was a founding board member of the Northeastern State University Physician Assistant program, helping shape the future of healthcare education in the Oklahoma and New York regions. Charles was deeply involved in his communities. Beginning in his highschool years, he played drums in a local band called the Stratacasters and held street dances for everyone to enjoy.  He was also a DJ for local school dances.  Additionally, he was a long time sports’ official and an avid golfer.  He served on both local and state school boards and was an active member of several civic and faith-based organizations. He was a devoted parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Muskogee and St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Westfield.  He also contributed his time and leadership to the Knights of Columbus in both communities, serving as a former Grand Knight in Oklahoma.  His passion for service extended into the arts in both communities as well; in Oklahoma he founded both adult and children’s community theater programs and served as their director, enriching the cultural life of Muskogee and the surrounding areas. He was also a proud member of the Kiwanis Club and the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department.  He was consistently working to improve the lives of those around him through service and outreach. Charles leaves behind a legacy marked by dedication, compassion, and a profound love for his family and community. His contributions will be remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. Charles is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Frances Mutch of Westfield, New York; Marnie Mutch of Oklahoma; brother-in-law Brian Edwards; and Daniel Sands.
