Margaret A. “Peggy” Beckman, 95, of Westfield, New York, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at her long-time winter home of Mission, Texas. She was born in New York City on March 1, 1927, the second child of J. Arthur and Margery (Mills) Jones. The young family soon returned to Chateaugay, New York, to work the family dairy farm on Jones Road, where 14 more children followed. It was a busy house and Peggy learned lifelong lessons in hard work, daily routines, and being engaged with her community. As a sixth grader, she decided to become a gym teacher, so after graduating from Chateaugay High School, she worked her way through Cortland State Teachers College where she earned her degree in Physical Education and Health Education, graduating in 1948. She landed a job as a physical education teacher in Westfield, New York, and quickly established herself in her new hometown. It was there she met Seymour “Sym” Beckman, who was home after serving his country in World War II and was working in the family construction business. They dated while he attended George Washington University and following his graduation they married on August 28, 1953, the same year she was named Miss Chautauqua County. Over the next twenty years she and Sym made homes in Washington, D.C., Berkeley Heights, New Jersey, and Timonium, Maryland, and together they raised four sons. Westfield was never too far away, first with visits home while Sym’s parents were still alive, and later taking the boys there for summers in the family house on Beckman Avenue. In 1972, the family moved back to Westfield full time and Peggy’s community involvement came into full bloom. She taught at Cardinal Mindszenty High School in Dunkirk, New York and later in Westfield in a variety of roles, including supervising students sent to in-school suspension. Her discipline was legendary and a strong deterrent against repeat offenses. She chaired the Village of Westfield Zoning Board of Appeals, served on the Board of the YWCA, was an officer of the Union Relief Association, and a member of Westfield Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She volunteered extensively, including at McClurg Museum and the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department’s Ox Roast up until last year. In Mission, she actively supported the women’s shelter, Women Together (Mujeres Unidas) and volunteered at many of the activities held in her park. She had a strong faith and was very active in St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Westfield and St. Peter & St. Paul Episcopal Church in Mission. She made dear friends everywhere she went, and remarkably kept in touch despite her aversion to modern technologies. She loved sports and games of all kinds, collected antiques, and made quilts. Most of all she loved a good story, was quick with a laugh, and bragged on her boys beyond anything they deserved. She was preceded in death by her beloved Sym on January 22, 2004, after they had celebrated fifty years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents and siblings Jimmy, Emma, Mary, Kate, Anna, Billy, Helen, David, and Jerry. Peggy is survived by sons Douglas (Kathy) Beckman of The Woodlands, Texas, Dr. Thomas (Kathi) Beckman of New Albany, Ohio, Steven (Carrie) Beckman of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Daniel (Emelie) Beckman of Wenham, Massachusetts; grandchildren Erin (Josh), Kelly (Mike), David, Jackson, Matthew, Lauren, Elizabeth, Hannah (Matt), Ted, and Jennifer; Simon, a great grandchild; siblings Bobby Jones, Frank Jones, Nancy Koti, Diane Podwirny, Jean Fall, and Judy Earl; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St. Westfield, New York, on Thursday February 9th, from 5:00 – 8:00pm. A funeral service will be held Friday, February 10th at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 12 Elm St. Westfield at 11:00am. There will be additional visitation from 10:00am until the time of services on Friday. Following a reception at the church, a private interment will be held at Westfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Peggy’s name to Patterson Library or St. Peter’s Church in Westfield. Please share remembrances and condolences at www.masonfuneral.com.

My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.

As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified.
