Raymond E. Gilbert Sr., 77, of Mayville, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday evening December 16, 2020 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on April 30, 1943 in Westfield, NY the son of the late Lovis and Ruth (Miller) Gilbert.
Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years NancyLee (Giles) Gilbert; two sons, Raymond E. Gilbert Jr, Randall (Michelle) Gilbert and Renae Gilbert, all of Mayville, NY; seven grandchildren, Jared and Krista (Akini Aluko) Gilbert, Andrew (Elizabeth) Kimbel, Gabriel (Stephanie) Seyler, Kennedy (Taya) and Kale Gilbert and Tommie (Chelsea) Adolph; six great grandchildren.
In addition to his parent’s, he was preceded in death by a son, Randy Giles Gilbert, seven brothers, Miley, Lovis Jr., Richard, Robert, Kenneth, Paul and Ronald Gilbert and two sisters, Betty Pierce and Mary Ann Walters.
Ray was the owner and operator of Ray Gilbert’s Hauling for more than 25 years, he also farmed most of his life working side by side with the Amish. He will be forever remembered for quiet personality. He could be very witty and use sarcasm and teasing to engage family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed working on his brother Bob’s stock car, going to the casinos, visiting his relatives and was proud to be the favorite “Uncle” in the family.
A Celebration of Ray’s Life will be held at the Mayville VFW Post 8647, 10 Memorial Dr. Mayville, NY on Saturday, December 26, 2020 from 2-4 PM.
