Obituary of Eleanor Cunningham

WESTFIELD - Eleanor Mae (Burroughs) Cunningham, age 95, of Douglas Rd., Westfield, entered into the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Alleghany General Hospital of Pittsburgh, PA.

Eleanor was born on February 8, 1922 in Mansfield, NY; the daughter of the late Milton and Mildred (Fisher) Burroughs.

She married Allen "Dutch" Cunningham on October 8, 1941 in Eddyville, NY.

An area resident since moving to Ripley in 1952, she and "Dutch" settled on Douglas Rd., Westfield in 1961. Eleanor worked at the former WT Grant Co in Westfield and retired from the C&E Telephone Company after many years as a telephone operator. She then provided private in-home health care for her neighbor.

Eleanor accepted Jesus Christ's gift of Salvation at an early age and lived her life for her Lord. She was a member of the Brocton Baptist Church. She loved taking care of her home and family, and often put the needs of others before her own. She cherished the time spent with all of her children, grandchildren and anyone she befriended. Her kitchen was always open and she always offered food to everyone who came to visit, (and insisted you eat). She was a fantastic cook.

She is survived by her three sons: Ronald (Alice) Cunningham of Portland, NY; Thomas (Patty) Cunningham of Ripley, NY; and James (Renee) Cunningham of Westfield, NY; and by her daughter-in-law, Sandy Cunningham of Westfield, NY. She is further survived by her 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her brother: Howard (Audrey) Burroughs of East Otto, NY.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Allen "Dutch" Cunningham; her son, John Cunningham; her grandson, James Michael Cunningham; her granddaughter, Corinne Marie Cunningham; her great-great grandson, Brody Emanuel Bannister; her sister, Pauline Updyke; and her two brothers, Cleo and Clifford Burroughs.

Friends may call on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY and again on Saturday, August 5th from 10-11 am at the Brocton Baptist Church, 35 West Main Street, Brocton, NY where the Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with Rev.
