WALTER A. CARDY OBIT WESTFIELD - Walter Arnold Cardy, age 93, of East Main Road, Westfield, died peacefully at home on Monday, November 12, after a long illness. He was born on August 28, 1914 in Niagara Falls, New York, the youngest son of Clarence and Georgia (Arnold) Cardy. He married Ann Elizabeth Hart of Dunkirk April 24, 1937. They were married for 62 years. Walter served in the United States Army during World War II, 1943 to 1946, in the China-Burma-India Theater of operations as a radio operator with the 943rd Anti Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion BTRY C. Once he was invited with several others to the home of Madam Chiang Kai-shek as a thank you for the occupation force in China. He flew the "Hump" several times between China and Burma and also traveled the famous Burma Road. During his lifetime, he was a meter reader for the Iroquois Gas Company. He was a plumber for Martin Plumbing and Heating in Westfield (later in Lake Alfred, Florida). He worked at both the former Alco and Niagara Mohawk in Dunkirk and also worked as a machinist for 20 years at Ajax Flexible Coupling, later becoming Renold Inc. Walt Cardy was a lifetime member and a Moose Fellow of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 118, serving as Governor in 1948. He was also a 32nd degree Mason of Summit Lodge 219 F&AM of Westfield. He was an avid golfer, playing for years in the Moose league and loved to build scale models of ships and aircraft having built several museum quality scale ship models. He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Hart Cardy, who died February 20, 1999, and his brothers, Wayne Cardy and Erving Cardy. Walter is survived by his son, Wayne Cardy and his wife Abbie of Westfield and granddaughters Elizabeth Cardy-Sciarrino and Brenna Christine Cardy, both of Rochester. Several nieces and nephews, Georgia and Jackie (Cardy) of Jamestown, Mr. Paul Cardy of Lockport, NY, Kathy Johnston of NC., Dr. Bernard Muscato of Buffalo, Ms. Judy Owens of Lexington KY, Mr. John Hart of NC., Mr. David Hart of Fredonia, Mary Hart of NC, Mrs. Ann Moe of NC. Friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Saturday, November 24, 2007at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Westfield with Fr. Charles Wheeler, officiating.. Inurnment will be in St. Peter's Columbarium. Memorials may be made to Chautauqua Adult Day Care, Westfield Branch, 58 South Portage St., Westfield, NY. 14787.
