RIPLEY - Alice Louise (Carnes) Testrake, of Lake Road, Ripley, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 4, 2016. She was born on May 20, 1924 in Brookville, PA, the daughter of the late J. Franklin Carnes and Iva M. (McAfoos) Carnes, Alice was the wife of the late Carl William Testrake, whom she married on August 18, 1945. Alice worked alongside her husband on the family grape farm as well as working in the cafeteria at Ripley Central School while her children attended school there and as a voting inspector in Ripley. Before they married Alice worked as a "Lords Angel" at the Lords Corporation in Erie PA, during WWII. Alice was an active member of the Ripley community for a big part of her life. She has been a member of the Ripley Grange #65 for over 60 years serving several years as their Chaplin. She was also a past president of both the Ripley Senior Citizens and the Ripley Women's Club. She was a member of the Ripley Beautification Committee, Ripley American Legion Auxiliary, RSVP and the Ripley Republican Committee. She volunteered as well at the Ripley Food Pantry. Alice loved spending time with her large family as well as playing cards with her friends in Ripley. Alice also liked to knit, crochet and was an avid reader. One of the things she really enjoyed was making handmade Christmas ornaments for her 12 grandchildren each year. Alice enjoyed travel and adventure. She and Carl had traveled throughout the United States. For their 40th wedding anniversary they traveled to Holland and Germany. She also went white water rafting, hot air ballooning, tubing on Lake Erie and zip lining all after the age of 70. She gifted all of her children with her quest of adventure as well as strong family values. She wrote about her life experiences and adventures and presented each of her children with a copy of her life story. Alice is survived by 5 of her 6 children, Thomas (Christina) Testrake of Erie PA, Patricia Testrake of Ripley, NY, Ronald (Paula) Testrake of Erie PA, Darlene (Paul) Connelly of Olean NY and Pamela (Lee) Livingston of Norfolk VA. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Cynthia (Robert) Seblink and her husband Kevin of Westfield NY, as well as her brother Robert (Charlotte) Carnes as of Brookville PA. She is further survived by her 12 grandchildren Patrick (Melissa) Testrake, Christopher (Colleen) Testrake, Matthew (Laura) Testrake, Elizabeth (David) Haffely, John Testrake, Michael Testrake, Douglas Testrake, Bridget Testrake, Mark (Katie) Connelly, Daniel Connelly, Tatiana Livingston and Nathan Livingston as well as 11 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Alice is predeceased by her husband, Carl, her son Robert Testrake, her son-in-law Paul Connelly, her brothers F. James Carnes and W. Henry Carnes as well as her sisters Virginia Lanier and R. Maxine Simpson. Friends may call on Monday, August 8, 2016 from 1 to 3 PM and 7 to 9 PM at the First Baptist Church of Ripley, 9869 E Side Hill Rd, Ripley, NY 14775, and are invited to attend the Funeral Services there on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Ripley Hose Company #1, 11 S State St, Ripley, NY 14775 or to the Ripley Senior Citizens, C/O Kenneth See, 9987 W Side Hill Rd, Ripley, NY 14775 would be greatly appreciated.
