WESTFIELD – Mrs. Maria Rodriguez, age 96, of Clark St., Westfield, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at home. Maria was born on November 17, 1919 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, a daughter of the late Jose and Juana (Allende) Machuca. She came to Westfield in 1956 from Bayamon, Puerto Rico to join her husband and enjoyed working with him at the family Fruit Stand at Rt. 394 and I-90 in Westfield. She had been employed by Vilardo Vineyards alongside her good friend Jennie and also had worked on the DeGolier Farm. She enjoyed being outside and working outside. She loved her Tulips and Gladiolas and gardening in general. Her home was "everyone's home". Maria had an open door policy for the area kids, who were always welcome in her home. Her cooking will go down in history as the absolute best! Her Red Rice and Fried Chicken were known as favorites. She adored her children and grandchildren. She was always there for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Dominos. Maria was a faithful communicant of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Parish. She is survived by four daughters: Gloria (Carl) Williams of Valparaiso, IN, Rose (Craig) Newbold and Wanda Rodriguez both of Columbiana, OH, and Ramona (David) Luder of Westfield, and by her two sons: Charles Rodriguez of Westfield and Edwin Rodriguez of Fredonia, NY. Maria is further survived by many grandchildren, several great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and by her brother Victor Allende of Jamestown, NY. She was predeceased by her husband, Manuel Rodriguez who died on December 15, 2001, and by her 4 sons, Jose Manuel, Ralph, Pedro and Luis Rodriguez, as well as her daughter, Juana Maria Rodriguez and several brothers and sisters. Friends may call on Friday, May 27, 2016 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at St. Dominic RC Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY with Msgr. Albert Clody officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Memorials may be made to Fire Department of Westfield Memorial Fund, 23 Elm Street, Westfield, NY 14787 or to Union Relief, c/o Terri Casler, B&C Tax, 61 East Main St., Westfield, NY 14787.
