WESTFIELD - Joseph T. "Uncle Joe" Calarco, age 96, of Maple St., Westfield, died Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at home. Joe was born on December 13, 1919 in Westfield, NY, a son of the late Carmelo and Theresa (Squillace) Calarco. A Westfield resident all his life, Joe was a 1938 graduate of Westfield Academy and received his Associate degree from Bryant and Stratton Business College; he furthered his education by attending Gannon University and Fredonia State for studies of Trucking Transportation and Trafficking. He served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945 attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. Joe had been employed by Welch Foods as traffic supervisor for many years and Torey Delivery of Dunkirk for a few years. He retired in 1974 from the former DeCeilio Trucking in Dunkirk as the Manager of Traffic. He was a member of St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church, the Fr. Daniel Early Council 3100 Knights of Columbus, the John W. Rogers Post 327 American Legion, the Wm. P. Jackway Post 6764 VFW and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge # 118 all of Westfield. Joe was extremely proud of his Catholic faith, his Italian heritage and his large extended family. He very meticulously cared for his home, his garden and his yard. Uncle Joe was an avid sports fan who enjoyed all types of sports. In his younger years, he was an accomplished golfer. He is survived by his cousin and caregivers, Linda and Michael Wolfe of Westfield, NY and their children, Tiffany and Lane, and by his two cousins, Geraldine (Calarco) Harper and Vincent (Charlotte) Calarco, both of Westfield. He is also survived by his nephew, Joe Calarco of Fredonia, NY and his niece, Joyce Brau of Texas. Uncle Joe is further survived by several other nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his three sisters, Grace, Louise and Rose Calarco, and by his five brothers, Frank, James, Virginio, Nicholas and Anthony Calarco, and by two infant brothers, as well as by his two nephews, Carl Calarco and Dr. James Calarco. Friends may call on Friday evening, April 8, 2016 from 5-7PM at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, NY, and are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 09, 2016 at St. Dominic RC Church, 15 Union Street, Westfield, NY with Msgr. Albert Clody officiating. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Patterson Library, 40 So.
