Obituary of Evelyn A. Bowen

WESTFIELD - Evelyn A. Bowen, age 89, of Westfield, NY, died peacefully Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at Absolut Care of Westfield. Evelyn was born on February 1, 1926 in Westfield, NY, the daughter of the late Howard W. and Emma (Stursa) Breads. Evelyn married her sweetheart, Norman E. Bowen, on September 22, 1946 in Westfield, and together they raised three children. A Westfield resident all of her life, she had been employed by Westfield Memorial Hospital as a receptionist at the Emergency Room desk and after her retirement from there she continued working in the same capacity at the former Westfield Health Care Center. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Evelyn had been active as a leader in the Girl Scouts, and was a former member of the Westfield Women of the Moose. She was a cat lover and an avid cook and baker. She enjoyed collecting recipes. Evelyn is survived by her daughter: Deborah (Curtis) Aldrich of Dubois, PA and her two sons; Marc (Dara) Bowen of Westfield and Jeffrey (Terrie) Bowen of Jamestown, NY. She is further survived by her 7 Grandchildren: Dean (Amanda) Aldrich of Toledo, OH, Dana (Ann) Aldrich of Clarion, PA, Josh Bowen of Pittsburgh, PA, Jake Bowen, of Westfield, NY Amanda (Brian) Merchant, Johanna (Micah) McFaul, and Jared Bowen, all of Jamestown, NY, as well as two Great Grandchildren, Maddie and Elliot Aldrich of Clarion, PA. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Norman E. Bowen, who died in July 2008, and two brothers, Eugene Breads, and Howard E. Breads, and an infant sister. No visitation will be observed. Private burial will be in Union Cemetery, Westfield, NY at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Westfield Stray Cat Rescue, 61 Academy St., Westfield, NY 14787.
